Boheh Stone Rolling Sun event

The Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail will host their Boheh Stone event on Friday August 24 at 7.30pm.

 

There is an undemanding 2km walk to the Boheh Stone and archaeologist Leo Morahan will talk about the significance of this unique site.

 

The event will start by meeting at Brackloon/Drummin Community Centre at 7.30pm. A cover charge of €5 applies and light refreshments will be served before the event.

Mayo Street Food Festival Quiz

Mayo Street Food Festival proudly presents it's fabulous fundraising food quiz on Monday, August 27, at 8.30pm in Bridge St Bar.

 

Tables will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and cost €40 per table with a maximum of four team members.

 

All proceeds go towards this year's festival, which takes place on Sunday, September 9.

Memorial Walk

The Mayo Roscommon Hospice 5k memorial walks, sponsored by Portwest, will take place in Belmullet, Ballaghaderreen, Castlerea, Claremorris and Westport on Sunday, September 9, commencing at 2pm.

Register before August 23 to receive a free t-shirt. The fee is €15 per person and Under 16s are free.

 

 

FREE DRIVER SERVICE FOR CHEMOTHERAPY PATIENTS

 

The Irish Cancer Society operates a free Volunteer Driver Service that is available to patients receiving chemotherapy treatments at Mayo General Hospital.

 

Volunteer drivers will pick up a patient at the door of their home, drive them to the hospital door and after treatment pick them up and drop them home again.

 

Patients wishing to avail of this free service should talk to their Oncology Nurse in the hospital.

Kids Knit

 

Kids Knit is back for a new term, starting on September 8, at Westport Family and Community Centre.

 

Fun and exciting knitting classes are provided for boys and girls of primary school age. Knitting aids concentration, encourages creativity and develops maths skills.

Cong music sessions

Cong music sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings throughout August and September in St Mary's Church of Ireland Church.

 

The sessions will feature some of the best musicians from around Ireland and entry is €15 with the sessions starting at 8pm and each session lasting around 75 minutes.

 

 

Mayo Addiction And Suicide Awareness

Mayo Addiction And Suicide Awareness is a free drop in centre on Richard Street, Castlebar for those seeking to recover from Addiction, Depression and Suicidal Tendancies.

Internet classes for older learners

Starting again in September, Age Action will run classes for older learners, aged 55+, who have little or no experience with using the Internet.

 

Classes are run Castlebar Library on Mondays from 10:45am to 12:45pm, Ballina Library on Tuesdays between 10:30am and 12:30pm and Swinford Library from 10am to 12 noon on Wednesdays. 

 

Participants are taught on a one to one basis by trained volunteer tutors. Each course cycle runs for 5 weeks  and there is no fee. For further information or to book a place on our waiting list, call Age Action on 091 527831.

Cemetery Mass

The  Parke Cemetery mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 17, also at 7pm.

 

In order to make improvements and enhance the cemetery, the annual household collection for its upkeep is being organised and the suggested donation of €20 per household will be taken up the mass.

Clogher on the Move

Clogher on the move is a series of family friendly guided walks to be held each Tuesday evening in  August on Clogher Bog Loop Walk.

 

Meet at Clogher Heritage Centre at 7pm. Please bring a Hi-Vis jacket and bottle of water.

Islandeady Parent & Toddler Group

A new parent, baby and toddler group has started in Islandeady and is open to any local parent, carer or childminder with a child or children under the age of 4.

 

The group meets every Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon in the Community Centre for informal fun and more. Refreshments and snacks for both kids and adults will be provided and the cost is just €2 per adult.

The new Greenway Car Boot Sale & Market takes place at the Halfway House Islandeady, on the Castlebar-Westport Road, every Saturday for the summer from 11am to 3pm.

Benefit Night

A Benefit Night for a worthy cause will take place in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, on Friday, October 5.

 

Doors open at 9pm with live music from X-Men followed by a disco until late.

 

There will also be a raffle on the night and an auction with some amazing prizes. Tickets cost €10.
